Although no completely established statistics are available at present, the
  widely used estimates place the blind population of Korea about 120,000
  and many others have enough visual impairment to constitute a serious life
  problems. Current trend appears that the number of blind people
  continuously increases especially in the elderly.
  Korea Foundation for Prevention of Blindness initially as Society was set
  up in Nov.1973 following the previous efforts of "Eye Day Movement" for
  25 years as sequence of concerns in the Korean Ophthalmological Society.
  Main purpose of the Foundation's accomplishment composes of
  provision of appropriate service for the eye problems, public health education for
  Prevention of Blindness, Eye Care, and encouragement of Research for
  development of acceptable technology.
  Effective programs in this communities will require cooperation among
  government, professionals, health care workers and others.
