INTRODUCTION
Blindness is preventable!
Korea Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness which started as
Korea Association for the Prevention of Blindness, has performed works
for the prevention of blindness and improvement of eye health in line
with the needs of each period and the change of society for the past
35 years.
Main works of the foundation include eye screening, eye operation
support, rehabilitation of low vision, etc. We also have put efforts
in cultivating experts through academic research, seminars and academic
conferences on reasons of blindness and its actual state.
□ Eye Screening
Eye Screening for the elderly, children, the disabled and foreign
workers in the regions of insufficient medical service in Korea.
□ Eye Operation Support
Operation support for the prevention of blindness of low income
class suffering from cataract, glaucoma and retinal diseases contributes
not only to helping individuals but also saving numerous regional
and national health related cost.
□ Eye Health Improvement for Pre-school Children
Performing children's sight improvement work, providing 600,000
pre-school children with early test of vision and detection of eye
related disease and treatment annually.
□ Rehabilitation of Low Vision
Working on visual rehabilitation (e.g. LVDs adaptation, Mobility
training, Visual efficiency Development) for the low-visioned under
the sight of 0.3 who are having difficulties in daily life, counselling,
supplying and lending low vision devices, and low vision enlightenment
campaign.
□ Eye Health Training and Promotion
Direct training at the site of eye screening, promotion on the Internet
website, publications including periodicals, consultation on eye
disease through telephone and the Internet and promotion of cornea
donation.
□ International Exchange and Cooperation
Promoting "VISION 2020" movement based on our experience
in Korea in order to eliminate preventable blindness by the year
2020 with WHO and International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness
